5 Tips for Summer Care!

5 Tips for Summer Care!

Summer is closing in and it is time to review some tips on keeping our skin health

1. Exfoliation...cleaner, clearer, smoother

Running the risk of sounding boring at times, I must state once more that exfoliation is imperative towards achieving a clean, smooth, glowing skin. Peeling will remove the layers of dead skin cells that accumulate on the surface of the epidermis. This is very important since the dead skin cells that accumulate cause congestion to the pores of the skin. Basically the skin cannot "breath", the pores get clogged and the skin is not able to receive proper hydration and other nutrients from products that we apply.

For most people exfoliation done once a week or every 10 days is probably adequate. I recommend you do your exfoliation in the evening, and follow it with an appropriate mask, and then with your night care cream. If you want to take it a step further, add an ampoule or serum (prior to the mask). The results will amaze you!

2. Cleansing Twice a day

Another absolute must. If you are not cleansing your skin twice a day (morning and evening) then you are not following a good skin care program. What I mean by cleansing is using an appropriate cleanser AND a tonic lotion to properly clean your skin in the morning and at night. The cleansing milk will remove impurities from the skin while the toner lotion is equally important as it will restore the skin's pH values.

I often hear from my clients that ....it takes too long... and ....I just don't have enough time...well let me tell you, it only takes about 2 minutes tops to properly cleanse and tone your face. So no more excuses.

3. Moisturized Skin

Simple, use moisturizing and anti-oxidant creams particularly during the day, that will provide your skin with the necessary hydration levels and protect it from the harmful elements. Further, combine in your skin care regime, masks, serums and ampoules, which will provide the skin with the extra hydration boost that is needed to get you through the tough summer days.

4. Don't forget your Body

Sometimes we tend to forget that just like our face, our body needs to receive proper care and hydration (not just in the summer but throughout the year). There are several excellent products available that will help boost your skins hydration levels and keep it smooth and supple. The best time to apply a body cream or lotion is right after you dry off from your shower.

When we say proper care we also mean exfoliation for the body as well. Just like the skin on your face, the skin on your body needs to be exfoliated to remove dead skin cells that accumulate on the surface. You will be surprised how good your skin will look and feel after exfoliating.

Finally do not forget your feet. You do not want your feet to look dull and dry when you wear those sandals. Do exfoliate your feet and especially your heels, and use daily an appropriate foot cream that will hydrate and nourish them.

5. Sun creams

Once is never enough! The application of a high quality, high SPF sun cream is a MUST not only during the summer, but throughout the year! The sun cream should be the last step in your skin care program, and is applied last (before applying make-up)

Especially during the summer, one application is not enough! You need to have your sun cream at hand and apply it frequently during the day especially if you are out and about.

Skin discoloration, sun blotches, photo-aging and environmental damage from UVA and UVB rays are all manageable and preventable when you are using your sun cream diligently. Remember, it is easier to prevent than trying to repair damage that has already taken place.

Please do send me your questions or comments, I will be very happy to answer your individual concerns about your daily skin care regime.
